Due to a bit of a lack of money I've not pursued the Alternators so much the last few months - got Grimlock, but haven't bothered with Swindle or anything since. So when Alt Windcharger showed up in the Argos catalogue (372/2220) I leapt at the opportunity of buying a TF in the UK.

Car mode looks nice but "it's a bit plasticky" as Mrs Phil put it when driving home. The main fault the toy has is only obvious in this mode when you get it home and alongside your other alternator cars..... He comes with both a folded back and covered top which can be swapped for each other.

Transformation is a front becomes the legs, back the arms type. There does only seem to be 2 for the Alternators. Maybe I'm getting used to them but this didn't seem half as hard as some - Smokescreen on first go was ever so hard. A couple of clever's involve extending the front of the car in tact, and the dash board and windscreen spinning 180 degrees. The only bit that gave me any trouble was working out what should happen to the very front of the car which was hanging where I wanted to put it's feet.

The robot is when you look at it rather reminiscent of Tracks - especially the back wheels on the shoulders. The "up top" version of the roof can be used as a shield in this mode and the engine should become a gun.... but for some reason the barrel has been removed (http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?TAK57640 shows the BT version with a barrel) leaving the clips the barrel would fit into. I believe there are already enterprising customisers at work creating this. Fortunately turning the engine the other way round makes it look like some futuristic laser weapon, and I can live with it like that. Posability feels a little limited - knees are a bit high and will not shift on mine.

The main flaw on the toy starts to come to mind when you look at the legs - they're very thin and slight and from there you get a feeling of smallness. As I intimated above it wasn't till I got it home and had it beside the other alts I realised why - that's cos it is small. I had him alongside Sideswipe's car mode and he's tinsy by comparison. The smallness of the car and the slightness of the robot mode make it IMO an ideal candidate for an Arcee repaint.

By itself it's not too bad, but Hound, Deadend and Tracks are better alternators that aren't out here yet.
