Inferno is a mega sized Fire Ant cast in a pinkish red, clear red and black. His fore and rear legs are ball jointed at the body and first joint, with just a bending joint in the middle whereas the middle legs are solid black pieces ball jointed at the body. The black last third of his rear legs is removable and forms a missile - place in his mouth and push a lever forward on his head - the mandibles open and the missile fires.
Inferno has a proto vehicle/base mode - split the abdomen into it's 4 segments and pose with the ant's bottom in the air with the legs pulled out the way. Inside the abdomen is a quad cannon, with a crank lever underneath. Pressing the crank cause the folded out abdomen segments to spin. It's kind of a gun emplacement. This idea would continue into later Megas and all the TM toys.
TF: pull the rear hips back, then swing the rear legs and abdomen round 180 degrees. Fold the abdomen onto the ant's back. Bring the rear legs together to form the robot's waist. Fold the black last third of the beast legs onto the front of the robot legs. Fold the black middle legs down. Open the panel on the ant's back, then fold the head of the ant down bringing the robot head out through the vacated slot for the panel on the back. Close the panel. Fold the black part of the front legs into the back of the middle section of the front legs forming the robot arms. Fold the abdomen up onto the robot's back.
Robot stays red having introduced little new pieces to the robot mode save the grey head. Ball joints at neck, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. The mandible section can be slid out of the ant head and used as a hand weapon, and from that the missile launcher can be removed & also hand held. The abdomen can be opened up again here and used as some sort of rocket pack. The clear plastic most of Inferno is made of really comes into it's own in robot mode - I can remember posing it on the window sill of my south facing bedroom window in Kingston and the sun just caught the toy and lit it up !
Overall: Not the worst toy in the world, and bar far not the worst Mega toy. A little simplistic perhaps - most of what he does could have been reproduced in a deluxe. But a truly barking mad character in the cartoon !
