Metroplex is the Leader of the TFs on the Giant Planet in Cybertron/Galaxy Force. He comes with his Minicon - Drillbit which I review elsewhere. Metroplex & Drillbit were sold in Japan as Galaxy Force toy GC-23 Megalo Convoy & Horrible which also contained a metallic version of Legends Optimus Prime. They were the only Giant Planet toys released in Japan. It was the Megalo Convoy version I initially reviewed:
Metroplex's base mode is a mess. It sort of looks like a bit of engineering machinery, and I like the shovels on the front. Lots of Minicon plugs - 14 in total. There are wheels mounted underneath so the base can move. The grabber/cutter arm is "mounted" on a turntable towards the rear of the toy - there are a couple of mounting positions on the arm but none of them really have deep enough pegs. Horrible has a specialist mount at the shovel end. In fact what the base mode mainly looks like is the robot laid down and scrunched up.
To TF you straighten the toy up. That's basically it. The robot has quite a bit going for it with finger, elbow, bicep, shoulder - fore & aft and sideway, neck, mid chest, waist, hip, calf, knee and ankles joints. There's 2 faces to this boy - one a human face, the other an Omega Supreme esque visor. He's got a 2nd robot mode which is basically the first scrunches up a bit. The 2nd looks slightly better proportioned - the first is too thin for it's height.
The grabber/cutter are becomes a staff weapon for him. His gold and purple Giant Planet Leader Key (the Cybertron version is numbered lm74) opens the cutter end of the staff up to reveal some light up bits, and I think there's some sound here too. But I've not been bothered to check. The staff can be held by Cybertron leader Optimus Prime as well as Metroplex so it's likely that Metroplex can hold Wing Saber's swords and by extension the mounts for them which will in turn let him hold 5mm peg weapons - would be nice to see him with the Requiem Blaster.
As you can tell I'm thoroughly underwhelmed by this toy. Robot is OK, but the base mode is awful - Overload's (another hated alt mode) at least had a purpose. I've had more fun with the Minicon and the small Prime pack in than the main toy. Avoid.
