I've got the version with the Unicron head. It did occur to me why would they stick a Unicron head in with this toy when there's no real reason to have it, and (as far as I know) you don't get Primus and Unicron battling to a finish in Cybertron with Primus ripping his head off. But of course Primus' 2nd mode is Planet Cybertron which ends up with Unicron's head as a moon at the end of the movie ! The head is quite nice, with half of the face blown away, damage to the horns and ripped tentacles hanging out the bottom.

I'll break with tradition here and start with the robot mode as he comes package like this. Primus is about 31cm tall to the top of his head, but the armour and guns lifts this maybe another 3cm. He's a mixture of 3 blues - a bright light blue, a dark blue and a slate grey blue with some black and grey too. It's odd but I always thought of Primus as red and yellow like Rodimus Prime - as he was shown in the comics. Hey, is this the first time a comics originated character has been made into a toy ? His head can best be described as "like Optimus Prime, but with no face plate" which is somehow apt that the Autobot leader does resemble the robot form of his creator.
The head can turn, and he also has shoulders that swing up or forwards - backwards is impeded by his armour, elbows that swing up, a swivel below the elbow, and hands with 2 joints on each finger, plus one at the base of the thumb. His hips go forwards and backwards as well as to the sides, there's a thigh swivel above the knee, and the knees bend backwards. He is relatively stable standing upright, but you might find his balance is improved on an uneven surface by spreading his legs slightly. His feet and heel spurs are actually made from the curve of his planet form, with the feet folded forwards. They look a little small for a robot of this size.
In this mode he has a missile launching cannon over each shoulder, a double barrelled launcher on each forearm - these each have a Minicon port mounted on them., and a key slot behind them. Inserting a key - his is a silver Cybertron Autobot key numbered sp8u - causes the cannons to pop up about 1cm and extend their barrels further. There's an impressive array of cannons moulded into his lower legs, and some moulded missile panels to the right of his ankles. He has no hand weapon as such, and his jointed hands won't hold any of the Minicon weapons - some way to make this possible either with a handle attachment or moulding a standard hole into the hands of the larger toy would be nice. There's also a pair of mini repair arms beside each knee which can extend and end in a Minicon port. There's more Minicon ports on the armour connected to his back.
What he does come with is a device called the Omega Lock. It can plug into a round hole on his chest and light up as a chest cannon. It's got 4 slots in it for each of the 4 leader planet keys. But it's non decorative function occurs in Primus transformation.
The first thing to do to is push both missile batteries beside the ankles in. Half way down the lower leg on the outside is a hole for the Omega lock. Insert into the hole and turn from the front upwards (anti clockwise on his right leg, clockwise on his left) which will rotate the entire outer half of the leg in the opposite direction and fold the gun array away. Rotate 180 degrees at the waist. Straighten the arms up by his sides, form the hands into fists and retract the fists. Insert the Omega Lock into his chest plug and pull down hard which will retract the head, fold down the shoulder pads and close the chest armour in one go - there's a laser blast sound here on the reverse step. Fold what would have been his tails on a suit jacket in over his bottom .Fold the missile launching cannons up so the point skywards and the non functional barrels are between them. Fold each to the sides until they lock. Take the Omega Lock, insert it in his back and pull upwards to lock the back armour together with an electronic sound. Fold the chest onto the legs using the knees & hips and stand on the back of the legs. Fold in the feet.
Primus' Planet form - Cybertron - is astonishing. Unlike Unicron he is a globe - albeit one with 4 small supporting feet/towers out of the bottom. But he can even be turned the other way up to rest on some towers on the other side of the planet. The moulded detail is astonishing - some may be able to tell you what each bit is but I'm told a moulded crater detail on the front of the toy is Kaon, the Decepticon city. Lots of spike stick out from it. Beautiful. And unlike Unicron again he is solid, this isn't a shell. He's got 4 Minicon ports atop the planet, one to the rear, and one on each side - those that were atop the forearm cannons. The key gimmick for these still works in this mode. You can use the Omega Lock to deploy the missile launching cannons in this mode thought this will also swing out the 2 halves of the upper hemisphere, but they can be swung back without stowing the cannons.
He's got a bonus third mode - effectively lie the robot mode on his front with the head at the rear and the feet forwards, and fold the side legs panels so they're facing forwards . Sounds silly, looks better.
Faults..... well mine was missing the front of it's right index finger out the box. I'm, sure the 2 noises are the wrong way round on mine, the laser blasts would be better with the guns deploying. But that's about it. Yes wrist joints might be useful but I can see how they'd hamper the TF.
Overall: I love this toy. The detail on the planet. The kids construction toyness of the Omega Lock. The HUGE posable robot. You want this toy.
As we've already hinted at there's two versions of the general release of this toy - with and without the Unicron head accesory. In addition there's a Wal*Mary exclusive with Minicons Knockdown, Nightscream, Strongarm and Offshoot. Primus was released in Japan, thought not under the Galaxy Force banner. See the EBI labs links above for pictures of the G1 style box !
