Flame Convoy comes in a large square fronted box in robot modes as seems to be the style for leaders this year - I believe Nitro Convoy is too - while the western version is packaged in Beast mode. He comes packaged with his axe and a gold rimmed Leader version of the Animatros (Beast) Planet Key which in Cybertron is numbered u2m8.
Spikes and claws - mainly in yellow - are very much the theme of the day with the robot mode, with lots of oranges - forearms & inner legs - and metallic black - chest, robot shoulders & head - which - together with the dragon head on the chest (topped with clear purple forehead) - makes me think that using the Scourge name for this wasn't such a good idea and maybe Predaking would have been better. Three of the four "Convoy" planet leaders have Primesque elements in their head, but Fire Convoy is the closest looking like Prime with the Faceplate removed. There's also a hint of Beast Wars Dinobot and Armada Hoist in there too. He's got a loin cloth but instead of hanging straight down it protrudes forward slightly. Button on the back causes a beast roar sound effect. Inserting a force chip at the base of his spine causes heads 2 and 3 to pop up - both moulded in orange plastic - accompanied by the TF ing noise. Pressing the sound effect button again gives a blast noise when the force chip is in. We've got articulation at the ankle, knees, hip, shoulders and elbow. Unfortunately for the hand's peg hole to be facing out the elbow points outwards too - so no bent arm poses while holding the weapon straight. The weight of the shoulder spikes does occasionally cause the shoulders to sag back a little in robot mode which can lead to the toy overbalancing.
TF is quite simple - turn the head round and fold it down, and then pull the dragon head up from the chest to extend the dragon's neck. Fold the shoulders back and the loin cloth up to close up the gap in the chest, fold the hands in and place on all fours. Rear legs can be posed extended to the back or - as the instructions suggest - folded up. Pull the rear legs at the back - they'll extend an inch or so - and attach the tail. I had trouble with mine, and reckon it's best to sort of slide it in sideways so the peg is pressing on one of the tabs.
The beast mode is pretty impressive - it's a more eastern style wingless dragon. Sound is still present, as is the flip up head gimmick which can be used to TF him from a single headed dragon to a 3 headed hydra dragon - I am reminded of the Beast Machine Cerberus. Tail can move up and down a bit and all robot limb articulation is still there in beast mode.
Overall: Wasn't impressed with the photos, like it lots better in the plastic. Good toy.
It's believed that only Argos stores in the UK received the case containing Scourge and Jetfire.
Just don't bother trying to find one of these Sky Linx inspired items.
Not the best recolour on the planet.
