I'm not a jet expert so can't tell you what this is meant to be ! According to http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Storm_Jet_(Energon)he's "based vaguely upon an SR-71 Blackbird spy plane". Well I know what a Blackbird is from my years as an X-Men reader and can vaguely see it.... Would help if it were all black I suppose instead of the red & white that the Storn Jet name brings with it from it's previous use in Robots in Disguise. It's very chunky in the wing area at the back, you expect larged thinner wings on a jet. He comes with no add on weapons for either mode unlike the basics he combines with. There are two Minicon ports on the toy - to the outer side of each of the tail fins - but since the fin is on one side and a Energon combiner connector on the other you'll have a hard task trying to attach a Minicon to it. The nose includes an embossed Autobot symbol - which ends up on both robot & combined robot's chests - but does also limit the repainting possibilities for this toy - no Decepticon version without a remould.
TF is a hideous origamiatron - the wings become the arms and the legs fold out from the rear with the nose becoming the chest.
What ? You wane me to describe it properly ???? Bend the nose back 180 degrees. Pull the legs down from the back of the plane - the waist folds forward 90 degrees then the hips a further 90. Fold the inside of each lower leg down and then rotate 180 degrees above the knee. Fold feet & heel spurs down. Unpeg the arms from the shoulders, fold out to the sides at the elbow and then turn each bicep joint in 90 degrees. Turn the plane's nose - from just behind the spark crystal - round 90 degrees. Fold the side flaps into the chest cavity. Fold the nose & cockpit forward and peg onto the waist. Fold the underside of the bit of the nose that projects above the neckline at the back forwards. The sides fold down and the shoulders lock onto them. Turn the head so it faces forward - importtant to remeber to turn it back when transforming back to plane or the jet won't fit together.
Robot mode isn't anything special I'm afraid. Very blocky limbs with arms that are far too long. Articulation is pretty good - bending knee, rotational joint above the knee, universal hip, turning shoulders with arms raising to the sides, bicep joint, bending elbow , another swivel joint bellow the elbow and a turning lightpiped head. He has no add on weapons in this mode - steal one of the dual cannons from the A-10 Thunderbolts for him to use - he looks good holding it from the rear peg when it's folded out.
More origami is required to form the chest mode: Reverse the robot head, fold the flaps up round the side and fold into the back of the neck. Open the robot chest up, fold up the super robot head and turn round - note the embossed Autobot symbol on the back of the chest cavity - only ever going to be seen now - and close the chest up. Lift the nose up, bend the arms 90 degrees at the elbows and fold both shoulders in. Fold each arm out 90 degrees at the bicep joint. Turn each lower arm so the fist hole points back and the wing points forward. Bend the arm up a further 90 degrees at the elbow and peg onto the back. Fold the nose cone back down and peg onto the waist.
Unfortunately the stability of the chest mode rather relies on it pegging together ...... and the pegs just don't want hold together in several places. This then affects the stability of the combine form which isn't great cos some of the legs don't lend themselves to stability either.
The let down piece of the five member air team.
Stormjet was available in Japan as Afterburner which was part of the SC-26 Superion Giftset/
This toy suffers from 2 big problems:
1) The knee are on backwards on all versions of the toy
2) It's a a "Fallapartabot" with the joint between the nose and the rest of the jet being very week. I've had one of the panels in his midsection just pop off too.
I'm finding it hard to get excited about this repaint as it doesn't do much for me and I didn't like the original toy. The only real plus point I can find is that the body of the combined robot holds together much better on this version - the pegs that hold the center robot's arms in place are a lot better fit even if the one to hold the chest in place isn't !
