Brawl may be the most realistic and well armed TF tank ever - a main barrel which doubles as a missile launcher, 2 smaller barrels, plus a 4 gun array on either side of the turret. In fact the design of the Tank almost looks like a double turret with the main gun on the lower half and the rest of the weapons up top. The Turret itself swivels, however there's no elevation on the barrel. Boo. There's some sort of comb arrangement on the front which I'm told could be some sort of mine clearing system. It looks odd here and worse in robot mode.
TF: Pull the side of the front of the tank out a bit. These are connected to an arm about a quarter of the way along the tank which is connected to the tank about half way along. Fold this back so the front tank sides remain parallel to the sides of the tank and they'll cover the rear of the tank sides. Fold the feet down at the rear of the tank and fold the barrels at the back up as heel spurs. Wiggle the legs to the side a but via a joint in the upper legs, Look at the underside of the tank with the front at the top, and the gun pointing up. Swing the middle of the front (all that's left there now) down to form the chest - the automorph should swing the treads up and raise the head. Fold the turret down at the back. There's 2 little panels about half way along each side - open these up. Using the gun barrel to wiggle with unfold the arm it's attached to and swing it out to the side with the gun on the upper side of the arm - the shoulder is attached to a bit of plastic which is attached to a ball joint hidden under the flap you've opened. You can now swing the other arm out - same attachment - with the claw on the upper side of the arm. Flip both arms over by the ball joints the attaching piece is linked to so that both weapons are now facing the same way as the top of the turret. Rotate the turret and then fold the piece that connects the turret to the base into the back of the robot chest. The arms should peg into the sides of the chest. They don't too well, but the flaps we opened earlier can be closed again which helps hold them into place. Blackout has a similar problem but nowhere near as bad.
Both weapons can now rotate round and the tank barrel can move backwards and forwards. There are elbows *BUT* they're not in the same plane as the hole in the hand: IE if you bend the arm, with the hand facing upwards as if holding a gun you end up with the arm folded across the chest. Not good. Coupled with the problems pegging the shoulders in which makes you not want to pressure the ball joints in his shoulders he's not great in the arm department. He's also got ball jointed hips and knee joints. His head turns, and has a red lightpipe. The face is afflicted by the Movie's design oddity - this is not a Transformer face. In fact it looks a bit like a face in some of the old gobots cartoon. Oh dear.
Overall: mixed. The arms are a problem and I don't like the face. Lots of the rest is very good and it's just a short step from being a lot better.
Brawl was a Wave 1 Movie deluxe toy. He was sold in Japan as Movie toy MD-03. Brawl was also available in two 3-packs with Jazz - the third figure in the first set is Protoform Optimus Prime, in the second set it's Bonecrusher.
