Review

Power Up VT6

Power Up is a portable games machine. There's never been a Transformer using this alternate mode before but they do exist in the 1999/2000 Magna/Laser Power Microman line. In fact I got one this very week that turns from a Gameboy into a robot...... and a PS1 that turns into a base. They put me right in the mood for reviewing the Real Gear toys ! Power Up is the only Decepticon in the first wave - his alt mode has a grey body with black pads to either side with the controls buil into them. His screen shows Cybertron Jetfire in flight.

TF: Automorph Technology ! Pull the claws out the sides at the top. Pull down on the lower sides to form the legs, and lock them together which should raise the head. If it doesn't come up far enough a little wiggling one leg back at a time should sort it out. Fold the arms out.

His articulation consists pf ball joints at the hips and elbows, swivel below the hip, knee joint and universal shoulders. The head turns but it's just pegged on - I suppose just in case you try to TF it with the head not ready to go in the slot. There's a pale green lightpipe - always good to see this feature. Lots of the revealed robot parts atre black, but the hips, waist, upper arms and claws are purple.

He's chunkier, slightly larger and simpler than the rest of the wave - but still good.

Power-Up is a Movie 2007 Real Gear Wave 1 toy with Longview, Spyshot 6 & Speed Dial 800. Power Up was sold in the UK and in Japan where he was toy numbered MD-06. The figure was also sold in a 2-pack with Zoom Out 25x as the Brain Scrambler Team.

Hacker X-3

Hacker is the Autobot repaint of Power Up. He swaps grey for black, black for grey, the purple becomes blue and clear green becomes clear blue. The screen now shows Movie Megatron & Optimus in combat.

You know these two would be better with the names swapped round - Hacker sounds much more like a Decepticon !

Hacker is a Movie 2007 Real Gear Wave 5 toy with Farsight T-20 & Highline 1070 and was not available in the UK or Japan
